Wii and rechargeable batteries

I recently got a new black wii and have tried to use rechargeable batteries a few times. The first time the batteries were brand new NiMH 2800 mah, frshly charged they last about one hour!!!! I recharged them and tried another few times but after an hour, the wii reacts badly to the controller and the power indicator has dropped to practically zilch!

Tonight I tried brand new fully charged Duracell 1800mah NiMH batteries and the same result.

Am I using the wrong type or doing something wrong. The batteries work everything else I own perfectly and the charger is fine too.

    Any Ideas?

Did you check the instructions for the batteries? Some rechargeable batteries need an extra long first charge in order to work properly, in the same way that the lithium ion cells in mobile phone batteries do.

I'd suggest trying them in a high-drain device like a digital camera with a decent flash or a handheld game system if you've got one - might help give you an idea if they're lasting properly or not

    Thanks Fysh,

I've tried them in my digital camera (which sucks the life from batteries) and they last an age.
It's really bugging me as I can't find anyone with the same issue, I've googled till my fingers bled. I'm using a one hour charger that I've always used and the batteries are fine in the camera.
I'm not exaggerating when I say I'd be lucky to get an hour from the batteries in the controller.

    arrrrgggghhhhhhh.......

I have the same problem, the (brand new) rechargables seem to run out really quickly, can't understand it!

I'm using rechareables in me Wii and 360 and they last a good few hours. I'm using an ancient charger that needs to have the batteries left charging over night but seems to work well. I've 8 batteries which is enough for 4 player fun or swapping them out when a set runs out.

Seem to have sorted my issue. I re charged the batteries in an old charger overnight and voila!!!!!
Either I'll need to do this all the time or maybe just for the first charge. Next time I'll try the one hour charger and if it fails, I'll stick with the overnight job.

    Either way, I'm chuffed now.

    Thanks all:P
