Anyone have one of these or know if they're worth looking at?

Been looking for a decent SUV/Jeep for a while and came across a good price for one of these. My mechanic told me to run away but Im not so sure.

I agree, i think a while back there was a case of a fairly new one needing a new engine, here on the motors forum

Also be aware that if you buy it you'd better be prepared to keep it until it dies, as all Ssang Yongs are about as desirable as a fart in a space suit.

    Yep, all of the above!

Also they look awful, which will mean you'll look awful!

They're not as bad as people are led to believe from a few negative comments they hear or read.

They're a good car, nice to drive and I know for a fact they don't give big trouble. They're like every other car out there, sometimes you get one that would never even have so much as a check lamp on and others seem to suffer every problem that the car can suffer.

As for engine issues, the only reason that any SsangYong engine suffers engine problems is because they like to drink a bit of oil and the owners either don't service them or they don't follow a very simple procedure, checking the oil levels.

And before you ask I don't work for SsangYong, I just know the cars.

But I'd stay away from the car as they don't hold their value very well and I wouldn't be too sure of SsangYongs future which wouldn't help resale. I heard they were gone into recievership in Korea but from what I've read they are under bankruptcy protection.

Ssanygong Ireland are still well and truly in business, car sales and parts... (just thought I'd add that)

    Yes they are. Useless cars.
    They're a good car,

    No they're not.
nice to drive and I know for a fact they don't give big trouble.

Nice to drive? If putting an elephant on roller skates and then putting him onto ice is your idea of a car that drives well, then burst on. To any normal person, they're horrible dungmasters.
But I'd stay away from the car as they don't hold their value very well

You can buy a PRE-REGISTERED 2007 model, that says it all about residuals. Even the guys in Ssssssssssssangyong-dungmastermobile-Ireland dont drive em. That says enough for me.

If by odd you mean that it resembles the remains of a backstreet abortion, then I would tend to agree with you.

Take it from someone in the know. I've a yard full of the fcuking things beside me. I know how hard they are to shift, what problems they give, and the type of person who buys them.

Regardless of all the brow beating, I think there's better metal out there to spend your money on OP.
Look towards an X-trail or a Rav4 or the like and you'll have some sort of residuals.

I've no doubt you're in "the know". My post was pure sarcasim, only because your posts are generally spot on, and I would always agree. I wasn't telling him to buy the car but I just don't think its fair the car has a bad rep. If this post was about the rexton 270 or even more the rexton 290 then I'd be screaming at him to stay away. I've worked first hand with these vehicles I know exactly what problems they can give I also know how many of them there are out there that never have given problems. There is more good than bad, believe it or not.
