Rent allowance etc.

Someone I know is having to give up work due to serious health issues.
They have only sent off their cert today and are not yet on the housing list as they're still trying to sort things out.

Just a quick ques. while they're trying to get in touch with the relevant authorities but how long roughly does rent allowance take to come through and also back money, how ill do you have to be to get disability allowance?

some people are saying 3 weeks ish. I was at the community welfare office asking this question today and he said it would take 'certainly several weeks, i couldnt say exactly' he advised me to have an extra months rent handy if at all possible, even if i have to beg or borrow.. he stopped short of saying 'steal" it does get backdated though.
