Hi, after the vrt is paid on a car and the new registration plate is given, how long is it to receive the logbook. Do you have to pay the car tax before the logbook is received.
Also do you pay road tax from the day it was imported and does the nct company contact you with a booking?

you pay the motor tax by sending off the white form the VRT office give you with all your insurance details.

this starts off the process and you receive the VLC/log book in the post a few days later.

then you ring the NCT and book an appointment but they may not have the car on their system so you might have to fax off a copy of the VLC to them so they can put it on their system, or indeed just go to an NCT centre and show them the log book when it arrives, they register it on their system and you can boon an NCT a day or two later.

You don't have to post anything off, when you get your VRT receipt you should have gotten a pin number to tax the car on-line. I did...

Paid VRT Friday & motor tax on Sunday.
I now have NCT booked for next Monday ( 8 days later), but have not received logbook yet.

Do I have to have the logbook for the NCT ?
Or can I show the Vehicle Import Receipt if still not received ?

You will receive the logbook after you tax it. NCT may or may not need it, usually they don't.

Try taxing the car online after a few days using the last 6 digits of the car's VIN as the PIN. You will not receive the logbook until the car is first taxed.

As pointed out, taxed on Sunday.
    Logbook received today, Thursday.
Very efficient, so no need to worry about not having logbook
