I bought one of these, http://usb.brando.com/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00366 ,USB sound adapters and its not working. There is no sound. I get a flashing green light on the device and when I restart my mac I can hear something briefly. It is showing up as USB Headphone set in the device tree. And, yes I have gone into System Preferences and selected USB headset for both input and output. I think the mic is working because i can see the input LV light up when I talk into the headset mic. And yes, the volume is up and not muted on both headset and on my late 2009 Mac Mini.

If it does not require drivers for the named OSs, whats on the driver CD?

What impedance on the headset? Try different mike and record something. Try outputting to different speaker.
