pain after root canal

I had a root canal done last Monday, it went well, he filled 3 roots.

Within a couple of days I have been experiencing severe pain. I can not pin point the source of the pain. It is all down one side of my face (the side of the root canal). It might be neurolgia, could this have been cause by the root canal treatment and if so will going back to my dentist be of any use?
