What visa are you planning to move on?

Lots of great places to live in the USA, and almost everywhere has cheap houses right now due to the economic crisis leading to foreclosures on homes. I would look for work first, then for a place to live near work, as work is much more difficult to find right now!

I'd look for work first then go wherever that takes you. Or at least narrow down a few places where you get job offers or there's a lot of work available then take your pick.

Sort out a job first, get the basics done like sorting out a bank account. You will need to build up some sort of credit before getting a mortgage.
