Hi lads I need some info regarding window tinting for my car.
I m thinking of having my windows tinted within next 2 or 3 months in Limerick area.
Now I dont want to get one of those really black tints I was more thinking of having one of those light and elegant tints that you could still see inside, but the windows are still tinted and yet they look nice and classy.
Do you know is there a specific name for that kind of tints and how much should I expect to pay for it?
I would prefer to have it done in Limerick area (as close as possible).

And one more thing, the car on which I want to tint the windows is Mazda 6.
Do you know do door cards needs to come of for the job to be done or can the man do it without taking the door cards off?

I m asking this because I would prefer to have it done without taking the door cards off.

the tint laws have just recently changed, you can only have up to 65% on the front windows, in regards to price, i might be getting my 3 door focus hatchback done and its 200 euro in vision fx, but with the new law im not sure if its worth my while, i want it darker than that and the garages wont do it on the front windows

the tints are done in scales of percentages, 2% is the least visibility you can get (the really dark limo black) then theres 5% (limo black) then they go something like 20% 40% etc.. but 65% is the most you can (legally) have in the front of the car, its lighter than a medium tint..

as far as i no most places dont use the tint you buy in the shop (you use soapy water) , they use this heat reactive stuff that shrinks into place,

im sure if they have to take the door panels off they will know what they are doing, the only place i know outside dublin is in meath.. not sure the name but you should google it then set up a post about the place your thinkin of using and get some opinions! :D

The new laws state that you need to leave 70% light through the front two windows thanks to EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (PASSENGER CAR ENTRY INTO SERVICE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 2008.

That means the darkest tint you can legally have on your car is 30%

Two very good places in Limerick are SleekFx on the childers Road and Proimage Sign and Tint on the bally simon road.

what your describing sounds more like factory spec tints, where the glass is made with the "tint" built in.

Go to Gary in ProImage, he will tint to your exact specifications and has done many tints to look exactly like a factory spec.

As for the door cards they never usually need to be taken completely off but sometimes will need to be out of their clips to allow some room to work with. Either way it will be in safe hands in ProImage and his tinting also comes with a very long guarantee if i remember correctly.

Hi lads just read all your replays now.:)
Basically what I would want is that kind of look that is not too dark, but more like a factory light look.
I v seen quite a few cars with that kind of tint but are definately not factory add on.
It looks like a very light tint that makes the car stand out especially when the colour of the car is bright red or black.
I ll defo call up in those 2 places during the week to get some info about it.
Can ye tell me if ye know what kind of prices are they charging for the tinting?

The reason I wouldn't like to have the door cards removed, is becasue I m afraid that the car might developed annoying rattles in the door afterwards, which would really annoy me in the long run.

Thanks for all your help lads:) if ye can let me know what kind of prices are they charging please do.:)

    Hi Bobo,

My guess is about 250 for all the windows on a mazda 6. In or around that figure. The price is the same regardless of the type of tint. As I mentioned Gary can defo do the type of tint your referring to, it would generally be known as a smoke tint, i.e. a light/medium tint. He'll show you all the different ones when you go in.

i was in a tint place yesterday and the guy working there had got an email from the nct center and it said that 65% is the darkest allowed on the front windows, and that the tint will now effect the nct too, they wont pass a car if its darker than 65%...

i looked through his selection and i might be going with about 30% all round, or possibly 30% on the back an 45% on the front windows,
i havent decided yet.. maybe lighter again.. defo wont be the 5% limo black! thats way to dark!

The NCT enforcement on opacity doesn't begin until either April or June. It was in an AA press release recently.

Keep the front two relatively light and do whatever you like with the back and rear windscreen and you should be fine

Well I'm just saying what the law states. To pass the nct fr the first of April you are correct in saying it's 65% however your understanding of this appears to be backwards. It's 65% light transmission therefore the darkest you can have the tint is 35%.

The law in Ireland is now 70% light transmission, leaving the darkest you can have tint at 30%.

Typical Irish system screwing that one up.

Op your looking at a maximum of 250 I'd say. And don't worry about the door card Gary in proimage is an upmost professional at his job.

Will this be killed off if I comment or should I open a new thread?
