Anyone using Carlube from B&Q?

I thought I'd give the GFs Micra an oil change (might do a tutorial) and had a look at B&Q motor oil section. I usually go for name brands but this time I think I'll be cheap (it's an old Micra, no need to splash out) and get Carlube 10W40 Engine Oil XPL050 5 L. It's less than half price of Castrol Magnatec 4L and I already spent lots of money this weekend.

Search just throws up a thread from 2005

I see it has ACEA A2 specification, that is an outdated but still reasonable spec. On my 03 Laguna, if an ACEA A2 oil is used the service interval is 12,000 miles whereas the interval is 18,000 miles if an ACEA A3 oil is used.

Basically, the B+Q oil will be more than good enough for an old Micra (assuming the viscosity is correct for the engine). Brand names mean very little when it comes to oil. I usually use LIDL, Tesco or Maxol oil.

Did an oil change in an old Polo using it -- oil is oil when it comes to older engines. It's only new engines I'm fussy about using branded oil in.

I wouldn't benchmark anything against Magnatec as it's so bloody dear (and a lot of questions have been asked about it, but that's for another thread). My local MF sells Maxol branded 0W40 for €22 for 5L. I'd consider anything less than that to be cheap. How much is the B&Q stuff? (I see £12.98 on diy.com)
