I have a new laptop, used mainly for the internet, but definately not file sharing. Is Microsoft Security essentials enough protection? I have been regularly scanning, and I make sure to keep it up to date? What do you think? I don't want (I think) any other virus protection that would slow things down on the laptop.

That's all i use. I would also use firefox or chrome as your browser as they'd be more secure than IE.

Thanks for that Alanstrainor. I've switched to Mozilla Firefox. It's not so different to IE, so I'll soon get used to it. Does Security Essentials automatically work with it now?

The two are separate. Firefox is your internet browser and security essentials is your anti virus/spyware/malware software. Security essentials will work no matter what browser you use, it's just that some browsers are more secure than others.

Thanks for that. Do you think I need any "firewall"? Not too sure what that is. I'm running Windows7.

Windows 7 has a built in firewall, which is on by default. It's more the sufficient.

Installed it on over 100 machines (school) without a hitch.
