My partner is hoping to return to work soon (hopefully upcoming interview will go well!) so I'd like to know how this will affect my own payment- disability allowance. I can't find much on citizens info website...does anyone know actual figures?

    Hi Pixie84

If your partner goes back to work your means test will be re-calculated to include your partner's income. It works like this:

    1) Your partner's weekly earnings are found (gross income less pension, PRSI, union dues).

    2) EUR20 is subtracted for each day your partner is working up to a max of 3 days or EUR60. So if your partner will be working full time, subtract EUR60.

    3) 60% of this figure is the 'assessed means'.

    4) The assessed means are taken away from the maximum rate of payment for you and your partner.

The max rate for you and your partner is EUR326.10 (EUR196 for you as the claimant and EUR 130.10 for your partner as the 'qualified adult'). If you have any children, the max rate is increased by EUR29.80 for each child.

For example: assuming you don't have any other means (eg significant savings or investments) and your partner will be earning EUR500 per week after PRSI etc., the assessed means will be EUR264 and the Disability Allowance payment will be EUR62.10 per week.

You can find out more about this here: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/social-welfare/social-welfare-payments/disability-and-illness/disability_allowance
