I've been getting this since updating to Xubuntu 9.10, first via update, then after a format/reinstall. It's happening with only a couple of boards.ie tabs open - no flash running and java disabled. Has anyone experienced this?

Does it happen with all web pages or just boards?

I've experienced a lot of trouble with Firefox on Kubuntu, unfortunately the only solution I found was to switch to Chrome.

    Safe mode?

All sites. I tried chrome but fonts are unreadable in it. Anyone know if it's possible to install FF 3.0 in (x)ubuntu karmic to test in parallel?

Is Safe mode without the plug-ins?

Unfortunately? Chrome is great, delighted that it now works on Linux!

Maybe try installing the latest version from the mozilla daily builds if you're not already using it.

I'll give that a go and if not try regressing to 3.0.

Does nobody else have ugle/blurry/unreadable fonts in google chrome? If it weren't for that I'd probably switch tomorrow.

I've had trouble with Xorg CPU usage spiking on a xubuntu install for the last while with firefox open. Is it firefox in top or xorg that's using the CPU?

Definitely firefox. xorg is relatively quite by comparison.
Strangely, it's behaving fairly well this evening...

I followed the instructions for that and FF3.6 installed but when I run firefox it's still 3.5.7

I tried looking for a particular firefox-3.6 binary but no sign of it.

    It's in /usr/lib/firefox-3.6.2pre

You can update the firefox link with
    sudo rm /usr/bin/firefox
    sudo ln -s /usr/lib/firefox-3.6.2pre/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

Thanks. Strangely enough this morning update-manager had a list of firefox updates. I installed them and firefox was gone, replaced by namoroko, which screws up my fonts and is incompatible with most of my plugins. On the other hand it didn't use as much CPU in the hour or so I tested it....

Obviosuly my plugins are a problem
