I remember somebody mentioning Willie Mullins and rather believe Olly Brady than Willie. After seeing him win with the outsider of his 2 runners today, that comment might not be far wrong.

Wouldn't believe that at all. Mullins can't control who backs his horses. His 2 horses were 10-1 and 12-1 in the morning, nothing between them. It was the fact that Ruby picked Cousin Vinnie that swayed the public. Apologies if anyone calls this aftertiming but people who backed CV yesterday need to get straight to a doctor today. I would have backed Citizen Vic ahead of him on what he's shown over fences and the fact that he can actually jump a fence unlike Vinnie. I didn't however,, I backed Roberto Goldbaek instead, but I don't think Mullins can be blamed for people following Ruby.

It was I, Mullins always gives me the impression that he doesnt like the gambling side of racing, it seems he doesnt like to think of anybody making money so purposely points punters away from his horses, like saying they'll need this run or the ground wont suit today.

Maybe i'm wrong but i know i'm not alone in this thinking

I've always have believed Willie Mullins one of the exceptions among the Irish training fraternity. I think its a facile argument to make when the outsider of two stable companions win. He may be wrong in some of his opinions but I dont think he puts punters away.

Dont like the fact the he used his racing post column to tell people to piss off and stop asking him to do cheltenham preview nights (he was slightly more PC)

As someone who has badgered Mullins for opinion at various race meeting down the years I can confirm that he was never anything other than courteous and honest.

What a complete waste of time his article in the new Irish Racing Post is goin to be. He wouldnt tell his left hand what his right hand is doing!

It will be as useful as Paul Nicholls in the current Racing Post. No more, no less.

I think Nicholls is genuine enuf. I know he's got it wrong the last few weekends but thats bound to happen every so often. I personally reckon Nicholls tells the truth about his horses 4/5 times. (They all have to keep quiet sometimes to please connections!) While I think mullins would tell his true opinion 1/5 times and be typically vague about the rest. He'd only tell us that he expects his 2/7 shot to win! You might as well be reading a Tony Martin article!

Just wondering, is this new Irish racing post everyday or is it just a sunday? Will we still get nicholls opinion in the Irish version? Why not just bulk up the the racing post and combine the lot? Seems like a bit of an extra money spinner?

I can see no evidence of Mullins being a Tony Martin type. I find it hard to think of a trainer at such a opposite to Martin in Ireland. He always struck me as the most forthcoming of high-profile Irish trainers. I cant remember any incident where he has lied in public or ever given the impression that he is putting punters away. If telling people that he doesnt want to attend cheltenham previews is the worst that can be levelled at him, then I think its ok.

He is not, and never wiil be, a Tony Martin type because Tony Martin never will have the ammunition that Mullins has in his stable. Mullins has become such a big trainer with horses that have aspirations of winning the highest grade races that he does not have to 'pull strokes' to make ends meet. A perfect example of this scenario is Fallon. When he was just another jockey in the north of England, he was involved in multiple 'dubious' happenings. When he went on to be stable jock for Cecil & Stoute, becoming a millionaire, he did not need to get involved in this kind of stuff anymore. But some stuff came back to haunt him anyway.

Have always found Nicholls column a great read and, most of the time, accurate. With Mullins only time will tell. Him telling people he will not do previews is just something that I personally thought should not appear in his column.

The Mullins yard wouldn't give the steam off there **** and never believe anything you hear from them.. id also question what in the name of god has he done with all the good horses (mainly The Fly) cos they all seem to have picked knocks or bad injuries. wonder what he's doin with them?? Hasn't had a lot of decent Bumper Horses either this year... personally if i had a horse id have a younger trainer look after for me.:confused:

I'm not saying mullins isint a top trainer cause he really is one of the best in the business. Also whoever buys his horses for him (maybe its all himself?) has a serious eye as its not coincidence that he had so many impressive bumper horses last year. He really had all them well turned out.

Some of his string is in very peculier form this year with alot of them still behind in work but he is still top man and I'm sure he'll get them right.

I'm just saying that I would trust him as far as I can throw him and that I couldnt for a second see him inform us of any value in his article.
