Sorry to bother you with another arts thread, but the other threads to be seem kinda old.

Well anyway, im thinknig of doing arts in UCD but i've just realised i can't d:)o the subjects i want to do which are, English, Geography and Archaelogy.
I see i can do them in UCC, so i was wondering to you have to do four subjects in 1st year or can you just do three?
My next Q is how many places do UCC have for arts?
Are the subjects that i have mention taught well?
Does Cork have good transport services?
What is Cork generally like? And does UCC have on-campus accomodation?

    Many thanks:)

I see i can do them in UCC, so i was wondering to you have to do four subjects in 1st year or can you just do three? In first year you do four subjects, which is reduced to two in second year. I've a friend who did Geo and Archeology in first year, kept on Geo, I'll ask her when I see her next!

My next Q is how many places do UCC have for arts? I don't know, but it is a big enough number, I'd imagine its above 1000??

Are the subjects that i have mention taught well? I know in first year English, you go to half of the lectures and get the other half on podcast because the number doing it was huge

Does Cork have good transport services? Not sure what u mean by this, but it is easily accessible

What is Cork generally like? Grand, plenty of shops etc

And does UCC have on-campus accomodation? http://www.ucc.ie/en/study/undergrad/where/

There is more info about arts here -> http://www.ucc.ie/en/study/undergrad/what/acsss/arts/

    Grand, plenty of shops etc

Wouldn't even have to know the user name to know the gender :D

    On topic:
Arts has 1000+ people in it Im sure. English and geography are extremely popular, with 400 and 350 people in first Arts respectively. Its a pity about the podcast thing, really.

Cork is nice. The transport is typical of Irish transport, where the timetables are to be taken with a grain of salt. UCC is nice. Where are you from?

Gender stereotyping, tut tut! :D I can't stand shopping, go in when I need something, and don't wander aimlessly around shops. :) There is a cinema in the city, one in Mahon (which isn't too far outside the city), plenty of clubs and bars etc, typical city

As regards the timetables, train and bus coming into the city are ok. The city buses are sometimes on time (especially around 10.30-2.30ish) but during the rush hour in the morning can get quite busy, and slip a bit later. If it is raining, buses are bound to be packed!

Cork is a great city and this is only enforced by the fact that UCC a great place too. I lived in Dublin for 2 years when I was first in College when I was 18 and I hated it. Cork is far more relaxed, clean, and the people are generally down to earth. On a side note, I actually got accepted into UCD this year along with UCC but I went with UCC. :)

I think that was because a very high number put English as their first subject choice that year. This year everyone can go to lectures and there's no podcasts.

Ah jeez! There is someone in my course from Dundalk!

Yeah, I'd say we're generally friendly enough!

Grand. There's probably going to be an influx anyways.

You do four subjects which are then dropped to two in 2nd and 3rd year (Three year degree). In 2nd year you can joint/major/single your subject if you want to focus on one or the other.

Look here for a wide overview of Arts in UCC:

    http://www.ucc.ie/en/study/undergrad/what/acsss/arts/

It's quite a good resource and there's more information there such as what other subjects you can pick and details etc.
My next Q is how many places do UCC have for arts?

Huge number. I'm not sure if it'll be hugely hard to get in if you gain the points, I'm open to correction though.
Are the subjects that i have mention taught well?

I'm not sure about your subjects but a couple of years ago, English was decent but a lot of course content was squeezed in IMO but generally a well-thought and hugely popular module.
Does Cork have good transport services?

Bus Eireánn's national bus serice/inner city service is brilliant imo. Hard to elaborate unless you've questions.
What is Cork generally like? And does UCC have on-campus accomodation?

Cork's an excellent place to be. Very nice and the people are great, rarely come across 'bad' ones so to speak.

RE: campus accomodation see here: http://www.ucc.ie/en/study/undergrad/where/ You may want to hurry with bookings etc. as they fill up in no time as far as I know.
