    Hello everyone,
I have been patiently waiting for my JSB for 2 months now. I cannot find work and would like to spend some time volunteering for charities etc- I'm climbing the walls at home.
When my JSB comes through will I have to tell them I am doing voluntary/unpaid work?

I don't think they have a problem with people doing voluntary / unpaid work provided you are still available to take up paid work should it come up.

FÁS even have a program where you can be allocated work experience in the voluntary and state sectors and retain your benefits and you can get a partial top-up from the employer (dependent on the employer).

You need to tell the Social Welfare. There is a VW1 Form to be filled in respect of volunteering while on benefits.

i went into them a while back enquiring about that form and was told it wasn't needed though things may have changed since.

the irish cancer society are taking on a load of volunteers for their daffodil day campaign, good company, very flexible with job interviews etc.
did three days a week with them till i finally found work.

Yeah, they don't have a problem with working voluntary work. They may ask you for a letter from the person you are working for confirming that you are not being paid.
