Projector?

Hi,

Thinking of buying a projector, possibly some stupid questions but hey we all gotta learn!!

I take it a projector is totally useless in daylight, so if i were to buy one the apartment would have to have the blinds closed?

How does one go about getting the correct screen size,how do you know how big the image is on the projector? i have a budget of about 600 - 800 for the projector and then i will also buy a manual pull down screen, anybody recommend anything?

First thing how far will the projector be from the screen.

In my case I brought a Hitachi TX200 for my bedroom and move it to the sitting room for Blu Ray movies.

I did so without measuring the distances.

It was ok for the sitting room with a 92" screen but not for the bedroom 66" screen, I had to bring the projector closer to the screen to make it fit the 66" screen.

You need to find a Projector Calculator for the projector your thinking of purchasing.

Change units to English.

Set the zoom to 1.00x, and select throw range

Then select your screen size at the bottom, most screen list size diagonally i.e 92"

With this screen(92") and my projector, the projector can be no further than 13' 9" from the screen and no closer than 8' 5" (if you Zoom to 1.6x)

With a 66" screen I can be no further than 9' 10" and no closer than 6' (with max zoom 1.6x)

I have my projector over 3 years and its still going strong and looks awesome with HD movies.

Im also new to this.
How do you get sound?
Im making a homemade DVD using Windows Movie Maker and want to display it on big screen via a projector, but I dont know how Id get the sound out?

You'll need a AV receiver and speakers for surround sound.

Or if you have a stereo system at home with an auxiliary input you could use that too but you'd only get stereo sound (2 channels)

For Dolby 5.1 or DTS surround you'll need a receiver and speakers.

If you have a large room then add a subwoofer for bass
