Unsure but in the next number of years things like N7/M7 are going to be phased out for E numbers.

The N7/M7 is now the E201 alongside the current name. On all new roadsigns.

Would it be a local road?

I saw someone putting these up today close to town (dublin). They were small signs with an arrow on them? I was curious but didn't ask.

yep local roads we have them in Cork, pure waste of money when you see the size of the roads they put them on, would be better spent improving the road surface

i think they are postcodes by the back door or for sat navs, they are all around templeogue for 1 - 2 years. i think if that using the number e.g. L1070 - if your house number was 12 then it be 12L1070 and like the uk it will bring you directly to your door

Yep, consistent with the European road network.

they're very small local roads which now have to be numbered due to EU, new postcodes and sat nav maps . . .

    If not then try below:

I tried google. I couldn't find anyone stating that irish road designations are being closed down in favour of E routes.

I tried the wikipedia link, I couldn't find anything stating that irish road designations are being superceded by E routes.

Since you've heard of Google, maybe you can find it for me?
Thanks for the sarcasm when you couldn't even understand the question.

Generally across europe, the E road designation is side by side with the existing road designation - I'd be surprised if Ireland is going to deviate from that. Extremely.

Makes sense that they could link these to postcodes and sat nav.

its my opinion that these will indeed be used for postcodes. Also useful for satnavs..anyone tried keying one in?

It's not that recent .. they've been putting them in in rural WIcklow for a year or more now. They're just Local road numbers, the same as Regional and National rods, that's all. The roads have had these numbers on internal Local Authority maps forever, they just weren't physically signed. Nothing to do with postcodes (they don't even know what format this new postcode system will use, if it ever appears, yet), satnavs or "The EU are taking over our road numbers" conspiracy theories. E road numbers are always on top of the existing national road numbers, all over Europe, and don't replace them.

Plenty of threads on the subject over on the Commuting & Transport forum.

I find them useful, but then again I'm going to some odd places (fishing on beaches)
