Non professional horse breeders

    Hi All,

I'm writing a short presentation and a technical paper which must be presented to non-professional breeders in the industry. I am taking the TB and non-TB market as a whole.

Anyone got any issues that they would like to see discussed?

I work part-time for professionals and non-professionals (I'm still a student) so I have a certain understanding of both industries but I thought this might be an interesting resource.

The presentation will be about bringing non-pro's up to speed on market needs and encouraging them to 'think before they breed' so that their youngstock have a chance of success in whatever they had in mind for them. I'm also touching on genetic diseases and financial aspects which some breeders may not have considered.

    All ideas welcome,
    Thanks in advance,
    Emma

If you haven't come across this site already, in your research, I definitely recommend hanging out at http://www.fuglyblog.com/ for a while.
And have a good root through her archived posts...she has some strong views on 'have-a-go' breeders, horse surpluses, and her conformation critiques are generally spot on! (IMHO)

Also, here's a fun article, meant to be tongue-in-cheek, on selling home-bred horses...but there's a lot of truth in the humour!

    Hope these links help. ;)
