My wife and some of her friends noticed that their Child Benefit did not hit their bank accounts on Tuesday.

Even after spending several hours on the phone to the Child Benefit section they were unable to speak to anyone, as the the phones were never answered.

Therefore we are curious to know how wide spread this is, as we are sure many mothers will be under severe financial strain as a result of this action.

There would have been no industrial action to delay any payment of any kind.
There may however have been action to not answer telephones.
You could call into or ring your local Social Welfare office and see if they can check on their system, or write to Child Benefit section asking about your missed payment, and give them your phone number on your letter and ask them to ring you.

This may seem like a horrible question but are any of your wives from a different country?

DFSA have been sending out forms to fill in and post back to state that people are still residing in this country and therefore still eligible to claim Child Benefit. A lot of people have only gotten this letter recently with a date of December on them and only 21 days to reply.

There's a big thread on AAM about these forms and how long they are taking to be sent out and as a result a lot of peoples claims for Child Benefit are frozen until they letters are returned.

Yeah, we get the form two or three times a year and always return it promptly, but eventually one will get lost in the post and they will cut us off..

One of my friends in in the same boat.
She didn't receive any Child Benefit last week.
She received one of those letters on 14th Dec telling her she had 21 days to fill it in and return.
Unfortunately, the same letter which she received on 14th Dec was dated 26th November.
She filled it in and posted it back on the same day.
After spending almost an hour on hold on the phone today, they told her they only received the completed form on 11th Jan, and had stopped payment, and that she now has to go through a process which can take up to 6 weeks to get her Child Benefit re-instated.
She is going to call in to the local Social Welfare office, but is there anything else she can do to resolve this?
Her bank charged her last week for a payment which caused her to be overdrawn.
Is this an issue with the Department or is it an An Post issue?

    Spoke to my friend today.
She called in to her local Social Welfare Office. They told her that they are having 8 - 10 people a day since the 3rd complaining that this has happened. They will resolve it fby the March payment.
I would advise you or your wife to call into your SW office to resolve it.
