Excessive condensation on windscreen

    Hi,

I'm having a problem with excessive condensation on my windscreen. The inside of the windscreen is saturated most mornings and can take a few minutes to dry out (and several cloths!).

Is there anything I can do to prevent this? I had my windscreen replace a couple of months ago (not because of this problem) and I was hoping maybe the seal on the original windscreen wasn't great but the problem persists with the new screen.

    Thanks

Either you have a leak and water is getting in (any wet patches on your carpet?) or you have the heater set to recirculate.

Set it so the air is coming in from outside all the time, and check for any damp patches on the carpets AND in your boot, including the spare wheel well.

Your floormats are probably still wet from all the snow that you were bringing in with your boots. Take them out and put them over a radiator to dry out.

I'd say theres a small leak on a seal somewhere where damp is getting in. Could be anywhere. Another possibility is a leaking heater matrix, but you'd notice a fumey type smell, and you haven't.

Have you got a sunroof? Sometimes the drains in these can be bunged up with leaves and grime causing water to ingress. Are you loosing any coolant at all?

Thank you for all the replies.

I don't have a sun roof and I never have the air set to recirculate.

I will check out the other suggestsions. The car is five years old and I've only noticed the problem this winter and last winter so something has changed!

    Thanks again

All of the above, but most importantly, when you soak up condensation with a cloth, take the wet cloth out of the car. A few mornings of removal should sort it, if there is no leak. Check the boot also for any puddles. If you get a nice day (haha..) when you're out driving on a decent road, drive with the windows open for a bit.

Once you find and fix the cause a tray or two of salt in the car will help no end. It got rid of almost all of the excess water I was suffering with. A windscreen washer pipe burst.

Then, after that do good journey with the air vents set to your feet and bake yourself for a while, then after a while of that open a window to let the damp air out.

It took 3 days of salt and one long bake to get rid of it all for me.

Replace your pollen filter if you haven't done so recently - if it's full of dirt it will restrict fresh air going into your car, and they can get damp too.

check all the door seals, as the recent big freeze caused my door seals to come off, I didn't get hot water in and around the door when deicing the windows with my kettle in the mornings!

Is there anything you can put on the inside of the car windows to reduce condensation ?

I like to roll down my front windows and drive at about 30 to 40mph just before getting out of the car in an attempt to remove the damp air so the car isn't too bad the next morning.

adjust air conditioning for max heat and open one of the back windows in a half

all of the wet should start drying out and that will help definitely

it depends of the current damp, but u should leave the car for a gooood while with max heat to make sure its fully dried
