The Belling BI90MFS costs €569.95 at Powercity
    http://www.powercity.ie/?par=45-44-495930&pages=4&prod=495930&brands=BELLING

The Whirlpool ART477 costs €464.95 at Powercity
    http://www.powercity.ie/?par=45-24-RT477

Delivery costs €14.95 so a total of €1049.85 against your €1133. Harvey Norman doesn't really belong in bargain alerts. Even the Philips 32pfl5604 TV costs just €469.95 in Powercity, a tenner lest than the Harvey Norman bargain.

Called powercity, not exactly the same items but very similar, quoted me 1670 + 95 delivery.

Thanks for the offer. Your website has one delivery charge for all items of 29.95, is this not the case?

    Next day...

Is the is email to respond to? Anyone there?

At least HN gave me better prices for similar spec or above on most. The oven from HN is definately better. The dishwasher the same spec, different brand.
    Fridge freezer the same, cheaper.

Aye, they came down 15% on the 1 day sale price with free delivery. I'd call that a good thing.

489.90 inc delivery, a tenner more. I would have to get it delivered as I dont live in Dublin.

Harveys will haggle, their customer service is impeccable in my experience and they're friendly and informative to deal with. Their stores are also a lot nicer than Power City's glorified warehouses.

Even if it was a little more expensive, I don't mind paying a little extra for good service and better comeback. Mind you I;ve spent so much in there they possibly treat me well deiberately at this stage :P

So you haggle with Harvey Norman to get your prices, yet you just accepted Powercity's prices they quoted over the phone? Did you not haggle with PC? Tell them the quote you got from HN and see if they could beat it?

Dropping 15% off their prices is only good if their prices are less than 15% greater than the competition. Otherwise, you're being done.

I do find your sig amusing, and rather ironical. You don't want to give "The Brits" your money, yet you spend nearly €1700 in an Australian shop without giving an Irish competitor a chance to get your money.

It's a minefield, shops will try anything to maximise margins. On cookers there's a massive difference between north and south, the gap has gotten smaller on other appliances.

I did haggle with power city, read the posts above. The price I quoted was post haggling.

I also went to 4 Irish suppliers (well I think Irish anyway, never can be sure these days...) HN won easily to be fair.

If you have an issue with the sig please take it to a PM rather than this forum. All is not as it seems. Click the link.

The items above were cheaper than any website I found in the UK, albeit before haggling.

Belling are part of GlenDimplex Group (Dunleer, Co. Louth) so you'd hope they may have a price advantage. They'd be at the mid to lower end though.
Try getting some mid to high-end stuff (Siemens, Miele, Waterford Stanley, even Rangemaster) and that's where you'll see the difference, especially on range cookers.

I'd love to know what store you go to as whenever I've been to Airside, half the staff haven't a clue what they are selling and any attempts to haggle are met with "I'll have to check with my manager" or "our margins are practically non existenet on this so we can't do more than a tenner off".
Also when a Philips TV developed a problem 1 week after buying I was told to contact Philips.....not what I'd consider excellent sales/after-sales service !

Harvey Norman are still going for 1 reason only....FINANCE. They sell people stuff they can't afford in 1 go and do your loan approval in-store....I've known people go in looking for a couch and come out with a couch and a new tv and home cinema set-up because "it's interest free credit".
It's the current day equivalent of when the ESB used to have shops and you could buy appliances and put them on your ESB bill !

I'm not saying PC are any great shakes, I avoid them whenever possible but Power City "do what it says on the tin", no plush showrooms and prices that are usually competitive. I usually go to PC first, haggle and get a written quote and the go to DID or HN and get it matched (I've had HN tell me twice that they can't match PC proices despite their price matching guarantee!)
