warranty on a car from trader

bought a car in dec from a car trader (not a dealer), got only one card with it (it's a renault) and was told that the other one will be mailed to me when it will be returned by the previous owner

2mnts later still didn't get it, I am assuming it was only a trick to buy the car. now I found out that there's few things that are not working properly (heating/ac for example), the other thing is central locking - the card I got is broken so the lock wont work (was told before bought the car that the other card will work no prob)

just reviewed the invoice I got from the car and it says: warranty will not cover labour, only parts

is that legal? I thought(and was told) that when you buy from trader you can expect warranty, but can he exclude the labour from it?

the problem is not that I don't have the other card, the problem is that I have only one that is not working

I'm not sure what you mean by "trader".

If you bought the car in the trade or for trade pricing then you have no comeback with regards to any issues, and odds are have no comeback on the spare key either unless you have it in writing somewhere.

Same deal if you bought privately.
If you didn't buy it trade, I'm not sure what the distinction between trader and dealer is.

I'm assuming he means someone who is selling "a few" cars on the side, from his front garden who is not registered as a dealer in the eyes of Revenue.

I thought you would know this? What do you mean?

well the OP mentioned trader, either the seller was a dealer or private?

That'd be my way of thinking - either you buy from a dealer (with all warranties etc), you buy from a private seller (no comeback) or you're in the trade and you buy the car "trade" (no comeback because you should know your stuff).

The whole idea of a private person buying from some side-of-the-road trader and not being given their full consumer rights just annoys me.

And this is a problem with the motor trade at the moment I think. People think that because there is a recession, they can bargin with anyone, for anything, which includes cars.
Man on the side of the road gives a better deal, people will go for the cheap option.

by "trader" I mean't a business (garage) who advertises as car seller (in this case on donedeal) with many cars to sale

no ad mention it's a "trade sale", just the invoice mentions that only the parts are covered by the warranty

as far as I know, even if you are buying second-hand from business you are entitled to a warranty (that's being an EU rule)

Do you mean buying from an independent dealer (wide variety of used cars) as opposed to a franchise dealer (Renault Garage for example)?
