    Hi folks.
To start with I'm a muppet when it comes to computers. I don't understand the terminology, the techie speak or any of that stuff.

Anyway, my PC (5 years old) is on it's last legs and I have a new one on the way. How do I get the stuff I want to keep like Outlook Express and all the emails therein across onto the new computer?

I have an external hard drive attached already which I'll keep - that holds all my photos/music etc. I'm really thinking of my Kapersky AV, my emails as mentioned and any other bits and pieces I may need.

Now don't tell me to "back up" 'cos I've no idea how to do that.

 no need to spend money doing , you have an external hard drive so use the files and setting transfer wizard to go from on pc to the other using the hard drive as the middle man so to speak.

As said above, there is no need for a transfer cable. Use the external disk.

Just had a quick browse on the instructions linked - they mention 3.5" floppy disks. Who the fcuk still has floppy disks let alone somewhere to stick them?

    For your email.

You'll need to reinstall your AntiVirus with the CD or by downloading it.
