Irish Theory tests

    Hi,

Sorry if this is being posted on the wrong forum. If it is, please move it to where it should be :)

First of all - I have a provisional driving licence issued in the UK which I got without passing a theory test which , I believe is necessary here. Will that be enough to allow me to start learning to drive here?

If not, I will have to start studying for the Irish theory test, which leads me into my next question....

I have seen the CD rom and book which prepares for the Irish driving test here.

However, from years ago, I have the following book whch I got years ago while still living in the UK.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Driving-Test-Michael-C-Cox/dp/0749530847/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1265402689&sr=8-1

Are the questions on the Irish theory test sufficiently different to need to shell out for a new book?

Look forward to any help anyone can give - and thanks!

    Nick

Hi Nick, I'm not sure about whether you can use your english provisional or not but I'd definitely get the Irish Rules of the Road book. You'll feel more confident knowing you've got the right book and the test questions are in the same format as in the book. You'll also be referring to it for your practical test as they ask you more theory questions including road signs. It's worth the buy!:)

As far as I know, you can't drive here on a UK provisional. You'll need to pass the Irish theory test and get a learner permit, or get your full licence in the UK.

Agree with DFella. UK provisional licence is not accepted over here. Get your hands on the Theory Test CD. It coveres every catagory on the licence so maybe someone you know has one already. If not there about €18 euro in most good book shops. Make sure its edition 4. Remember once you pass and get that provisional licence you have to wait 6 months before you can sit the test.

    Good luck buddy...
