Not sure if this is ok. Mods, please remove if unacceptable.
Was in Ernest Jones on Grafton St yesterday and they have a Tag Monaco Chronograph at 50% off (around 1700 now). It's in the clearance area at the back of the shop. No cash for it myself, but would make a great buy at that price. I bought one of the 'shop soiled' clearance items myself last year and it was in perfect condition. Some slight damage to the box but the watch was 100%.
By the way, I have no affiliation to Ernest Jones whatsoever...

I was in looking at watches in the powerscourt centre yesterday (Dublin)

One of the dealers has two lovely tag monacos as well as a cracking Audemars piquet for 2.5k each.

The rrp on the Audemars is 6.5k Sterling (it is new, never worn)

I almost gave in & treated myself but its just too close to Christmas.
A nice buy for anyone considering a luxury watch though...

where ? and which model do you know?

tag moncao in ernest jones for 1650 i think btw

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 64 ✭✭2Poc

Sorry - can't remember the name of the place & their website seems years out of date.

Its on the first floor of the powerscourt centre, next door to an antiques place named 'Monte Christo' or something like that.
Small shop, need to ring the bell to get in. I bought a Breitling there myself last year.

I've had my eye on the Tag Monaco for a while - he said they're usually around 3,800. Must check out Earnest Jones, have never seen them that price.

Re: the Audemar, I'm not familiar with the models so not sure tbh. It was very classical, small gold face with the brand written in the bezel & a brown leather strap. 18k gold as far as I remember

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,475 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

yep bogmanfan posted about it a while ago, i went in for a nosey yesterday,

its down the back of the shop in the clearance section for half price of rrp at 1,650 (3,800 seems wrong rrp is 3,300), there is a mark on the leather strap, not sure if the case is perfect, maybe a little shop soiled, you would need to check it out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,709 ✭✭✭bogmanfan

AP might be worth a look, but Monacos are a bit expensive I reckon. As mentioned in an earlier thread, Ernest Jones had a blue dial one for 1600, brand new with warranty.

ive the blue leather strap one but i bought it in gran canaria 2 years ago for 2200 euro and when i got home i took it to a jeweller here and got it valued for 3800 so as i could get it insured and i have never seen them for 1600..
that is a steal if there is nothing wrong with them but i think i would rather pay the extra for the watch if there is something not right with the one at 1600

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,475 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

there was a scratch on the leather band, it would come with a full warranty etc, id pay the 1600 personally,

and while the rrp of a monaco may be 3.5k odd or whatever it is, you would want to be off your rocker to pay rrp for one:D

Was in town for lunch today and had a look in Ernest & Jones on Grafton Street. Noticed that they had a Porsche Design automatic chrono reduced from €3,900 to €925. It looks similar to this.

    porsche-design-dashboard-mens-wristwatch.jpg

They also had a Tag Aqua Racer for the ladies reduced from €900 to €270. Not bad prices.

Unfortunately almost all the watches are gone. I went to grab one for my better half, but they only had left 2 Porsche Design for men, not that it wouldn’t tempt me at this price, but it’s her turn for a watch. Now I have to buy one full price…damn!!!

wouldnt go spending a forune on a current porsche design watch

Agreed. I got one of these on tz-uk for £400. Sold it soon after as the bracelet was a bit too blingy, but nice piece for that money

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭god's toy

wow good price indeed! (i'll dream on here a little more that I'll get one)

Now if only we had some kind of forum where threads like this could be moved to, a kinda bragin alert forum...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 678 ✭✭✭m4r10

We get some alerts on watches from fellow forummers from time to time.
If only we could hire somebody to patrol the streets of Dublin in search of watch bargains, that would be sweet.

Not to everyone's taste maybe, but the ladies love them...
Field's Jewellers on Henry St has 50% off Gucci watches.

sheerans off grafton st have a display of watches of the week, some are heavily discounted,

there is a JLC diver (curent model) at 5k down from 8k

few iwcs discounted a bit less than that, some ebels aswell, and breitling for bentley, worth a look :)

Was in Ernest and Jones yesterday and they have 2 Tissot Automatic chrono's for €880. Excellent price for what you get. The ETA 2894-2 movement is used in many expensive models. The only drawback is the warranty is only for 6 months.

Still, it's a gorgeous watch and I was tempted. (though i'd rather put the funds towards a Speedy Pro)

They also has a Tag Carerra for €1,800, didn't enquire about that but may interest other's.

The Brown Thomas sale has 50% off the Ferrari by Panerai range. Still way too expensive though

There is a beautiful Glashutte Original in Ernest Jones on Grafton St at 50% off right now. It's €3650, down from €7300. Worth a look.

Sorry man, don't know. It's a black dial on bracelet. Think it says evolution on the dial. Out of my league right now unfortunately. It's down the back with the clearance stuff.

Not usually, but they get items in from stores which have closed down in the UK. They have a few Porsche Design and Corum models also. Usually have no boxes or papers, and no warranty either.

Ibood.ie offer today may be of some interest to the watch fans..

    Link...

sports evolution panodate, They couldn't tell me if it was pre owned but was quite grimey around the crown and several large gouges on the opposite side of the case. It comes with 6 month in store warranty.

I saw this tonight. Nice watch but very out of place in there and what more there was no level of sales expertise at all.

The marks on the side seem ok, I asked for a further discount but was offered none.

If it was a store watch surely it would have a new manufacturers warranty if sold now.
Anyone how know much the original strap for this watch is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 285 ✭✭Gavin1

Do you know the price of the Trieste strap?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 285 ✭✭Gavin1

Rang Glashutte Paris and this strap is 305 euro. A tang buckle is 105. A "double closing clasp" was quoted at 2100 euro, yes that is 2100 euro. More than likely the current cost of the bracelet.

Watch prices on Amazon are complete balderdash. I've a big voucher for them since Christmas so I had a good browse (especially at the Seiko watches) and the prices were ludicroud. Even their '70% off' prices were still at least 30-40% more than what you would pay on the interwebz elsewhere. The voucher will be used for books.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,709 ✭✭✭bogmanfan

    Little bump for this thread.

Dublin Goldsmiths on Talbot St (near Irish Life Centre) has a used Tag Aquagraph for €950 which looks good value.

Also Corr's in Powerscourt has a 2-tone AP Royal Oak for €4250. The catch is it's a quartz, but having seen some AP service bills, that's a good thing in my opinion. (looks like the one picture below)

The problem with quartz is will it be servicable in 15-20 years time?
A good watchmaker could make a mechanical part for a vintage watch but I've yet to hear of anyone who can repair or remake a vintage circuit board with an integrated chip.
A watch like AP should be handed down from generation to generation and for that reason should really be mechanical.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,709 ✭✭✭bogmanfan

While I generally prefer mechanical watches, having seen AP service bills of up to £4k for their auto watches, I'd be going for a quartz if I was looking for a Royal Oak.

If it's a fairly standard quartz movement they shirley you could just drop a new movement into the case?

I think that's his point - why spend €4k on a "big name" quartz, if you can just drop a new movement into the case??

why anyone would spend that kind of money on a Quartz is beyond me

The same could be said for some automatics too and from some high end brands too. Personally I believe when your spending 5k and upwards the movement should be completely in house.

Cash Connectors in Cork have a Rolex Deep Sea for 5,000.
Looks to be in decent condition when considering it's 10k new.

I would say it's a pity that mostly cheap but overpriced watches are on "sale" (brought down to a more realistic but still not a bargain price..). Seiko and possibly RW was the best in the lineup. I'm yet to see some proper bargains on good automatic and mechanical watches on Amazon...or maybe I just missed it, but anytime there is a watch sale it's cheap asian made quartz watches. Don't get me wrong I'm not looking for a Rolex and Patek half price sale, but it would be nice to see some Swiss or German mechanicals too even if it's in the low range...

"Invicta"!! They always seem to be reduced by about 85% or so, every few weeks. Hope no-one has ever paid over a hundred for one of those watches...

But I got a good Casio Edifice on Amazon a few months back, 440 euros in town
(Fields, etc) and I got it for 205 delivered :) So still worth keeping an eye on these things, just in case

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 219 ✭✭fishguy

That is actually a really good price on that Casio. But I would love to see some on mechanicals too. Probably they sell themselves without any promotions...
