Just wondering which tour people prefer to watch on the box?? Personally I would watch the European Tour quicker than the PGA. Just feels like I can relate to it more seeing guys playing in bad weather etc during the summer and the variety of different courses they play.

Which Tour do you Prefer to watch on TV? 22 votes

I watch both but the "golf channel" coverage via sky is head wrecking to view with all the breaks. More talking than actual golf.

Im all about the euro tour. Just because its day time viewing & I work from home.
I couldnt watch much night time USPGA golf as im the only golf fan in the house.

edit: Those fu*kin adds on golf channel though, AAAAAAAAGH! Every add is for a
medication of some kind that will probably kill you with possible side effects.

Back to watching a bit of both now having not watched much of either for a while.
Each has its own attraction... we can relate more to the ET because more of 'our' players are on it every week.... nice to lounge on a Sunday afternoon and watch the golf on tv.
PGA tour is more boring to me if it's only a routine event but can still have the edge at the business end like the playoffs.
Sunday night sunshine golf is pretty cool too but the coverage can be lame.

European Tour for me, US coverage and ad breaks do my head in !

Plus I'd prefer to look at Di Stewart than Sr. Nick Faldo.

    didn't vote,
would go for another option if available

(c).......... depends on the event and venue.........

weeks the european tour travel to morocco, kazikstan, austria, holland, russia and the likes can be missed as they're usually crappy fields in both sense
you won't want to miss the better ones usually in mid summer, around the pga at wentworth to the open time

the us tour has a few crappy events too john deere, justin timberlake, bob hope "celbrity tripe marathon" event and a few in vegas spring to mind
but the wgc's and sawgrass, muirfield, bayhill plus some more are hard to miss

and obviousy the majors where and whenever they're on
oh and the irish open:o.......go on shane boy!!

the better the course and field will determine it for me

Like Licksy said, I would rather watch the European Tour because I would know more of the players. It's not as interesting when you're watching a load of American unknowns playing. The coverage on Sky is excellent its pretty good with the bigger British hosted tournaments on BBC.

Its a question of quality. Not interested in Europe if none of the top 10 are playing. Anyway most of the top Europeans will be playing regularly on PGA tour within the next 2 years. Who wants to watch European Golf if it doesnt involve the best in the game!

So you watch golf for a living, nice...

    European for me!

Sky + , record and play

I like both tours but just about go for the European tour as there more Irish players and more interest.

I tend to find a lot of the American events the courses look the same which is why I like the vary different type of courses that seem to be played in the European tour.

But in saying that I like to be able to watch bit of Golf on Sunday night and especially if its big event the American tour can be very good to watch. Pity about those flipping adds.

I prefer to watch the European Tour golf because i think sky sports have much better coverage than the golf channel. The bbc is even better again.
I dont like the golf channel coverage because it feels like you are watching a programme with 50% golf, 30% adds and 20% charity work being done.

Not the most exciting television sometimes.

European tour for me purely cause of the Irish players. Sometimes find the USPGA a little harder to really get into when these isn't an Irish player somewhere on the leaderboard.

I always like golf on the BBC, you cant beat a bit of Peter Alliss!

I used to watch the US golf alot when it was on Sky .
Since it switched to Setanta and the golf channel got the coverage rights I gave up watching it.
    The coverage is abominable.
I dont watch much European tour either.
I'll watch the Majors,Ryder cup and a few other tournaments ,prob 12 in total.

Sky + , record and play

    +1

if you wanted to watch just the irish guys you can froward it at x6 and x30 through the ads. Then watch who you're interested in in real time. You can get through a days play in an hour.

If there's a white ball been hit then I'm watching, both tour's. European tour is more real, courses very different, while PGA is very sterile.

European Tour for me too, more blood and guts golf, USPGA is like 90210 Golf.......if ya get my drift.:o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,472 ✭✭✭stockdam

I prefer the European Tour. Better variety of courses, better commentators.

defo more variety over here but the couses i have played of note in the states (Torrey Pines N&S,the olympic club)were top notch,in fact they played and looked totally different that they appear on the tele,

a lot of mundane, boring courses in Spain and Portugal imo,but i still prefer European golf,

a friend of mine lives in Canada and have seen some top photos of tree lined courses over there,Has anyone here played in Canada?
