I don't know much about the course to be honest but i don't think its one of those hugely popular courses that would see a huge rise in points. Its more like computer science and BIS that i would expect to raise.

    Although im no expert so.............

I did email the dept a week or so ago and they said they'd be suprised if it went beyond 340-350 but with this CAO news :(.

I know its not a popular course bu I'm afraid allot may choose it as of its points...I hope not tohugh,I'm actually genuinly intetested and want to do further study after this and a rise in points could set me a good bit off((Nearly struggling with the 360 goal, secondary dosent suit me blah:())

To be honest I think they'll rise across the board regardless of the popularity of the course. With 2 applicants for every place realistically they have to.

Not trying to rain on your parade but you're better off fore warned

Have to agree with this, according to the CAO there has been an unprecedented rise in mature student applications also. But you can never predict what way the CAO will set the points. You'll just have to do your best and wait and see.As a back up you could apply for an arts degree and select government modules.

I would do that but Arts will go way higher than this course:(

I doubt the points will go mad for government. It was 430 when I went for it but I don't think it will go that high again. It might go back up to the high 300s at a push.

Is arts set to go higher???

I do European Studies and as a result do a few Politics modules, and it's a really fantastic department. The Government department is always organizing different events, last Monday they had Michael Martin down speaking, and recently they've had Oireachtas Committee meetings, and speeches by the President of Ireland, and the US Ambassador.

If you don't get Government, you can do Politics as a part of art.

Well Arts ws higher than Gov already and Arts did go up a good bit as well this year..and with the increase in applicants its due to skyrocket.

Actually arts is my 3rd choice...Gov first,Social science((Or studies...forget the name heh)) second and then Arts .

I think I had social science somewhere on my CAO form too. Don't worry about it too much, you should get Government without too much trouble.
