family of 4 all booked on flight to UK. only 1 person has booked to check in a bag but now that person may not be going. does anyone know can you transfer the checked bag onto another passenger who is still travelling or will they lose out on the bag if the passenger who it is booked under does not travel?
    thanks

If that person doesn't go, the bag doesn't either. Non-transferable, I'm afraid.

Most definitely non-transferable. There was a thread about this very recently either here or on AAM. The OP there was complaining that luggae is non-transferable. He had checked and Ryanair had clearly stated it. Sorry for the bad news.

Everyone above is right it is non-transferable.

But remember each passenger can bring up to 10kg luggage onboard on the flight with them (once they have paid for a seat so I think if the kids are under 2 this mightn't apply??) So that's 30kg between the 3 of you still flying. Depending on how long you are going for that might be enough without having to pay for another bag checked in. :)

Can the named person check in the bag and then go home? Or can you not just check it in for them while they're 'in the toilet'?

Security issue? I have seen before when people don't show at the gate- then the flight gets delayed as they have to take their baggage off the plane...

Easy enough tell the boarding gate people the person left at that stage. Meh, if you're worried, just pay for another bag.

Not very good advice really. The bag will be removed, the flight delayed and someone will have to then explain to airport police why they weren't on the flight.

Dont worry will definately not be trying this! had a bad experience years and years ago when something like this happened. i was only a kid and i was going over to cousins in UK for weeks holidays and my cousin was flying home with me for her weeks holidays. it was cheaper to book us both for same flights so i checked in at airport but obviously she wasnt coming over to UK with me. cant remember which airline it was maybe aerlingus. my mum asked could she go to the gate with me and check in girl said yes she could use cousins boarding card to get through security. so mum left me at gate and had a good shop in Duty free while i boarded plane! half hour later no lift off - girl came down to me asking where my cousin was and all i could tell her was she wasnt with me. got a good yelling at that i was holding up plane and they were looking for her bag, even tho there wasnt one checked in and i would be arrested for holding up plane! talk bout putting the fear of god in a child!

sorry bit off topic but il never forget that horrible day!
