i got my car servised today and the guy told me that my steering rack was leaking! he said that it was leaking into the boot! is this expensive to fix? is it dangerous and what affect will it have on my driving, i asked the mechanic could he fix it and they told me they couldnt, it wasnt there thing (this is from a a good rep garage franchise) he also told me its not a big deal and that its not dangerous and that its not of great importance! somehow i doubt it! any advice?

Depending on the car you may have to replace the steering rack entirely. It cost me about €400 when it happened to my car (it happened after hitting a kerb, btw), but I have a Fiesta so I'd guess a rack would cost a fair bit more for your car.

You'll have to keep an eye on power steering fluid until you get it fixed. The leak may get progressively worse.
