Not sure where to put this, move if theres a better section for it.

Right so I got a Sony bravia kdl 23b4050 for €195 2 days ago, I think its a good deal as it has very good sound, a nice 23" screen, does up to 1080i and is nice looking and lightweight. The only problem is the freeview is MPEG2 not MPEG4, i can pick up sound but no picture.
The thing is, if I return it, the only tv there I can really afford is an LG 22" m227wd for €250. I could try and get him to knock like a tenner off but I doubt he will.
That does 1080p, but would you really tell the difference between 720 and 1080p on a 22", and has MPEG4 DTT, but it seems to be more pushed as a monitor. Also for some reason, its 22" inch but looks from when I compare in my head, alot smaller than the sony. The sound is also awful, no bass at all.

Ive been looking at options, like getting a CAM card for the sony but theyre 60 quid
Also STB's dont seem much cheaper atm. I'm a student and bought it for playing games and watching a bit of tv like the soccer and stuff on in the flat, so I cant really go much more than €50 extra on top of the €200.

So what do you think, is it worth returning just to get the digital freeview, as I look at TV3 and RTE 2 a fair bit at home on sky, but I can only seem to get RTE2 on analog here, and I would like to get TV3 here as I get the sound. Will set top boxes be alot cheaper in a few months? Is there much chance of BBC and like ITV being added to RTE DTT when it launches?

Its annoying, not sure what to do...:(

TV3 currently just has the RTÉ NL test screen last time I checked (I don' look at that channel much), and last week TG4 had the test screen for a few days :(

I am trying to think how much I spend I think you are depressing me but I got mine before xmas.

LG3110 I think is the model.

BBC NI may be on SaorView but I don't think BBC NI will. And now that think of it I have just realized that spillover will also give you access to RTÉ 1, 2 and TG4  possibly in MPEG 2 format but that won't be until 2012 if it happens.

This is the cheapest workaround to your problem. However a word of warning would be to not put these boxes on top of any other equipment as they tend to overheat in this situation. Other than that they do the job.
