School?

I'm half way through my first year in me new school and I'm really considering switching back to my old one. Only problem is the new place is a boarding school and it cost the folks quite a bit to send me there. It's a good school and that but I'm finding it very hard to "fit in", I've made one or two friends but everyone else seems like they don't really want to get to know me ? Which has me spending most days on me own after school(till 8pm, only a day boarder so I come home every night). It's not like im not trying to "fit in" and make more friends but I'm just getting the cold shoulder and coming from the old school where I was, it's a massive change to what I'm used to, Old place I knew 90% of the school and most of my good friends were in the place and had some of the best craic of me life in the place. Only problem with that place is I was getting in sh*t most of the time and getting suspended etc..

So basically I'm in need of a few other opinions on the situation and what you would do If you were in my position because I'm gone mad with trying to figure out all of the outcomes in me head !

I think that your intentions must be made known to your parents, and that you should have an 'adult' conversation about it. Firstly, are you sure that the fees cannot be partly recouped?; and are you sure that you cannot put yuor head down and just get through the rest of the year?

op i know exactly how you feel. iv been there. after my junior cert i moved schools to avoid transition year. i only knew one or two people there and wouldnt even have known them well. i think its very hard to make friends with people who are already in their own little groups within the year and then going to school everyday knowing you will be alone is very tough. i quit school and walked after a week all ill say is stick at it!! the one thing i believe after my experience is the i didnt give it enough time and didnt try hard enough.

A new school is always a difficult adjustment - I moved twice between 12 and 17. 6 months isn't that long - and if you have a few mates, it's starts snowballing. Are there no activities you can do until 8 (ie sports clubs, debate clubs, that sort of thing?)

If you are a day boarder, and most of the students are full-time boarders, that's extra hard. Living together creates a stronger bond - I doubt they are intentionally cold shouldering you, it's just that they aren't really used to you being around. Don't read too much into people, and just try being extroverted and friendly to everyone.

The first time you get uprooted and have to make new friends it's hard, but it's actually good practice in many regards.

Going back to your old school doesn't sound like the best idea if you were getting suspended all the time. I'd assume that's a primary reason for the school switch. You might intend to do better if you go back, but if that's your friend circle and your reputation at the school, it would be easy to fall into old habits. Or were you still doing fine at school despite the trouble?

Yes, that's your problem. You moved schools so that you could improve your grades, yet now your feeling lonely, and that in itself may have a negative effect on those grades.

The only thing you can do is work hard in your new school and try not to worry about the social side of your life, or tell your parents how unhappy you are, and go back to your old school.

But if you go back to the old school, you really will have to change your ways, or you'll upset your parents. Anyway, I'm not sure that half a school year is long enough for you to be making the decision.
