Bottom half of monitor is black!! Can't see anything

The bottom half of my monitor is broken. I can't see anything at that end. I don't remember spilling anything on it or dropping it. I used to come and go, as in I used to be able to see the bottom half then all of a sudden it would go black again.

Do I need a new monitor or can I get this fixed? How much would it cost?

first of all i'd see could you boot into the bios and see does the full screen show up if you get me? then try get your hands on an external monitor, depending on what connectons you have, you may even be able to hook it up to your tv.

what is the model of the laptop? it sounds like a bad LCD screen to be honest, replacement could cost you anywhere in the region of €100 - €200... :(
