Hi! In reference to Quinnlite construction? I recently saw a Passive house (yet to be certified!)being built using 215mm B3 blocks, with 250mm rigid insulation externally, that was it...no cavity, no wall ties. It was 2 storey with 150mm hollow core floors and an insulated raft foundation...has anyone any comment on this?

    Folks,

I was considering these as a possibility for the inner leaf rather than dense block, however I am not sure if they would be able to support the concrete first floor...

I have a sneaking suspicion I looked at this before and determined they would not be suitable... anyone confirm this for me /

    best rgs. baud.

Another option that may work is Poroton or Thermoplan blocks. They don't require a cavity because they breathe well and have integrated cavities. They're also fairly high performing thermally and can be used structurally. HB may have less of a problem with them, I know Premiere Bond are OK with them.

    Sounds interesting.

If you have a reference I'd be much obliged.

The Mosart house - 1st PHI certified Passiv House in Ireland was built similar to this
215 ordinary conc blocks + 300 insulation . You will see it more and more now .

What comments are you looking for ?

Externally insulated houses generally DONT have cavities or wall ties.... nothing new here. they are a single leaf system build.
