    Hi Guys,

I am grabbing the bull by the horns...and launching a new startup in the current climate.

I have the business plan and I am working on the cash flow analysis and it looks promising. My query is I am planning on going to my local enterprise board and seek primer funding they say on the site upto 80k is available on a 50% basis but I would like advice on :

    1. Should I go in for 25k,30k,35k.. ie do you go in high and allow for a drop?
    2. Has anyone sucessfully got funding recently ? and if so how is the drawdown structured ?

It would really help if I get suggestions/advice

    Cheers guys

Enterprise boards don't have specific start up grants nor do they give out anything close to 80k to start ups.

The types of grant available are dependent on the type of business you intend going into. They do give assistance towards websites. They will not give grants for service based industries - there is a list. There is grants but they are linked with ability to create employment.

If you are an unemployed person, the Dept of SW do provide back to work assistance - for website and computer equip/software, but this depends on funds available, you would need to check out with local SW.

There is other sources of course - Enterprise Ireland, private investors. The main principle here is "no tyre kickers", only the real deal. Just opening doors to other ideas for you.

I approached the Wexford Enterprise board late 2009. No help whatsoever. Their criteria changes (to exclude you) as you explain your needs. I would love to see their record of grant aid. Is it available for public viewing?

That would be very useful, I remember someone posted on here... the last 4 years of EI funding grants , has anyone got info with regard to the funding given by enterprise boards ? I looked online but was unable to find any info. Do you have to submit a foi request ? I was told by sdenterprise that there funding was to be cut by 30 % this year. And he gave an overall figure of 220-260k for 2010 and about 8k per ft job created.

I'd love to know what their wage bill is for administering 260k..... I bet their overall costs are probably three or four times that...

As far as i know the local enterprise boards are fairly broke at the moment. They tend to give grants where there's great export potential and job creation, if they have money to give it out. Also its awfully bureaucratic so expect months of delay while papers are pushed around if they could approve it.
