Is there really a big difference in Brands ! ie Are Bosch plugs say better than NGK or does it make any difference in engine performance and fuel economy as long as they have the correct gaps ?

I rang an Opel dealer the other day and the ones they had were €22 euro for four and he said they were unbranded and why did I want to know what brand they were! I told him I wasn't paying €22 for generic ones ..Iv'e never seen a spark plug that didn't have a brand name on it !

I wouldnt think branded vs unbranded sparkplugs would make a massive (or even detectable) difference to a non performance engine. Once you start upping boost on forced induction engine engines, you may need to change to "colder" spark plugs to avoid engine knock (compressed air and fuel detonating due to the residual heat on spark plug igniting it before the plug gives out its spark), which can damage the engine and always reduces performance.

It would probably be more important to worry about whether the plugs have been gapped correctly rather than the brand for you everyday cars.

As one example, I know Mazda re-brand NGK plugs and sell them as Mazda plugs at a higher price. So rather than buy the Mazda plug from a dealer, people have found out the equivalent NGK branded plug and buy those instead.

I got some good longlife iridium plugs for my car, but that as a transverse mounted V6 so doing the rear plugs is a real pain. on a normal 4 cylinder car I wouldn't be too fussed about the brand as they're easily changed.
