I am amazed at the number, of wannabe economists and beard sympathisers who post on here in an incredible rate, during normal office hours
At whose cost is this I wonder?
Your own, guess if you are self employed!
If you are a PS or CS worker, I guess it's just one more cost you are imposing on the tax payers.
If you are employed in the private sector, you are costing your employer.

One way or another, this boards.ie, is costing the country, big time!!

    Discuss :P

Maybe the hack was by the Irish government in an attempt to make people be more productive at work by stopping them from accessing the site...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,257 ✭✭✭✭ejmaztec

I work for myself and pretend that I'm working 24/7, so that I can charge huge fees to subsidise all of the time that I waste on here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,345 ✭✭✭Dunjohn

I'm sure that, without boards.ie, there would be massive amounts of people being fired for watching porn at work.

So, in a way, this is a good thing.

I have sh!t all to do in work at the moment. Boards is my only saving grace to get me through the day.

My job requires large amounts of time sitting around waiting on something to break. WTF else am I gonna do?

    Bloody guiltmongers are everywhere nowadays.

    Productivity is relative.

For people in jobs which all or mostly involve using computers, productivity can hinge on simple things such as typing speed and keyboard shortcuts.

For example, I have seen people take five minutes to perform a task which should only take less than a minute - e.g. pasting figures into a spreadsheet, sorting it, saving it and emailing it with some short text. That's a 60-second task, but it will take most people upwards of 5 minutes to do.

    It sounds completely ridiculous when you say it, but consider even the humble copy-and-paste;
Two people work in a job which involves copying a value from one screen, going to another screen and pasting it in.

Person A, selects all the text with the mouse, and uses the menus to copy it, then clicks on the taskbar, clicks in the other field and then uses the menu to pastein the value, then clicks on the first application again in the taskbar.

Person B, double-clicks on the text to select it, Ctrl+C's it, Alt+Tab to the other screen, click on the field, Ctrl+V, Alt+Tab back.

So Person B is a minimum 3 times faster than person A, for no reason other than they know their way around a computer. For a one-day course in computing, the company could triple person A's productivity!

It's a stupidly simple example, but it's simple things like this which cost massive amounts of productivity across the economy where the people work primarily on a computer.

When I worked in a Government department almost all websites were inaccessible. (bar RTÉ, BBC and websites controlled by the Dept. and the Government). Not the case in all depts.

    You dont like it... GTFO

I also note the time that you posted that comment..... During working hours wasn't it?

During work hours I outsource all my Boards.ie posting to a guy in India.

I'm not happy though. His grammar and spelling is terrible and he has this unending fascination with Slumdog Millionaire.

You can always claw back some productivity through other means...

Saving the country a fortune in psychiatric sessions etc. Look at all the stuff we can get off our chests on here that we'd just have to keep bottled up otherwise.

Person B ends up with 2 weeks sick leave with RSI and all productivity goes out the window. :D

OP, you clearly should not have bothered making this thread, now some of the daily rags will actually have a story to print...all in the attempted shaming of Boards.ie...

Said lazy journos from a previous post above...get off your collective asses and stop trawling the web for something interesting (although thet being said, there's alot more interesting stuff on here than they could ever get by themselves)

Just set the laser printer to stun and zap the boss, that'll buy you 10-15 minutes.
