Clearing along by stone walls

    I'm looking for suggestions.

I want to clear away growth along, up and over stone walls. There is long grass, briars and some blackthorn. I hope to get grass for grazing growing to the butt of the wall and make it tidier looking.

But I'm in REPS so spraying within 5ft of stone walls is not available to me.

A strimmer isn't a great option as there is loose stones that have fallen over time (the last 30 years!).

So I'm looking for suggestions as to the best way to tackle this to keep the back breaking to a minimum!!

You should contact your reps planner, they might be able to arrange with the department that you could spray along the wall if ye showed the briars etc were encroching onto the fields and that it was too big of a job to controll manually, but dont do any work unless you get it writing from them first.

    Thanks roadtripman for that.

However the REPS planner is adamant that there can be no spraying along by the wall.:( The growth probably isn't bad enough to claim enroachment anyway.

If you were to drive along all stone walls with a JCB with the bucket on the ground, that will break any strong growth and shove any stones etc out of the way. After that keep it topped to keep the weeds down.

hire somebody with a hedgecutter or else somebody with a minidigger to pull the briars.
