Ryanair website

    Hey there,

I just booked a return trip for my friend and I to Eindhoven with Ryanair and all was fine until I realised I put in the wrong phone number and I needed to go back a page so I did and that was ok. I finished the booking and they sent me the itinerary and I was charged for two checked in bags, one for me and the other for my friend at €30 each even though I didn't even select that, I selected no checked-in baggage for both of us. I'm think when I scrolled back a page to change my number, the stupid website must have reset the baggage option to the default, one checked-in bag of course without me realising! I tried to change it with the change flight details thing but there was no option for that. I looked up their flight terms and conditions and it says:

"Checked baggage can be reserved online at the time of booking or via a Ryanair call centre up to 4 hours prior to the scheduled flight departure (subject to call centre opening hours) or up to 40 minutes prior to the scheduled flight departure time at the airport."

So I'm guessing I'll have to ring them tomorrow to sort it out? I'm just pissed off that the website does that, it seems so cunning. Has anyone else ever encountered this?

On the last page, you have to agree to a sentence that says something like "I authorize Ryanair to debit €X amount from my credit card". Also on that page, you can see your itinerary and all add-on charges. Yes, it sucks if a charge slips in due to a website glitch. Yes, it is a disgrace that more and more websites cannot handle such a simple thing as the back button... But you were shown your itinerary, you were given the option to look over it and make 100% sure all was in order. I fear it is too late now. Unless someone at the Ryanair call center has mercy (good luck with that), I guess you will have to take 15kg of bricks with you, return, just to make sure you are getting what you paid for :).

On the bright side, it is a learning experience - always double- and triple-check the final itinerary and charges before agreeing to be charged. But do not take too long before clicking that final "pay" button or the website will time out on you...

Yeah it's really annoying to be honest. Well I'm going to ring them up tomorrow and explain. If they don't refund me, then I'm gonna use the extra baggage to buy lots of stuff over there! ;)

It is ironic that what tripped you up was the least useful bit of information Ryanair ask for - your phone number. I have flown Ryanair countless times. They have played all sorts of tricks on me, changed flight details, departure and arrival times... never have they used my phone number to notify me. It is all handled by e-mail anyway. I wonder why they even bother with a phone number.

I can't think of many sites where if you go back a page to alter info that it retains the options selected when you return, but it's a pain in the hole alright.

Call them, explain the situation and all should go well. Just be nice on the phone, irrespective of how you feel about this, they may reckon that it's your own fault for not checking when you came back to the luggage page, so getting irate will only make them not want to help.
