A district Court judge who owns a premises in Naas, Co Kildare, that had been rented to a “head shop” has asked his auctioneer to have the building vacated.

He had agreed to allow the premises be used as a venue for an "alternative medicine center", and he had no idea of its current use.

These guys have some neck or else the were stupid if they knew that this property belonged to a judge, talk about pulling a dog by the tail. :p

    Stupid, provocative thing to do.

The Guards can expect a freer hand from now on.

I hope they have a contract and he has to either allow them to stay or pay them a lot to leave.

    Why exactly?

That judge presides over state legislation which finds nothing legally wrong about head shops participating in trade.

I have been to an event before where a district justice and an RTE personality were quite unashamedly under the influence of a controlled substance... some people were indignant and morally vomiting about it. I have no idea why. Why do we seem to expect certain standards of non elected individuals when they act in a private capacity... it's their business.

Personally, I don't really support head shops. But if this judge had deliberately rented to them - so what. The law is the law.

It would have to boil down to the definition of "alternative medicine" alternitive to what?

Would the contract even state it, "alternative medicine" was just what he was told, probably by the letting agent.

A lot of people do care at the amount of these shops that are opening up around the country.

Legal shops that know their days are numbered. This is why they have become so open and bold about their business. 4am closing with free deliveries while off licenses are forced to close at 10PM.

They are still legal though. Joe Duffy and his army of miserable do gooder morons can be thanked for this madness.

Alternative to the HSE? Maybe this judge doesn't have health insurance and dislikes mary harney and thought these chaps would start a revolution for him with new health care methods and we'd have a proper health care system. Not like them holistics and herb remedy shops.

    WTF?

Seriously, so he's a judge. Big wop. Who care?
If the shop is operating withn the boundaries of their lease and the law, then surely he would be in breach of contract for trying to shift them out of it?

None of these shops (in Dublin) deliver. Not one. Don't know who came up with that horsesh1t, but there ya go. If they did, or do anywhere else, they wouldn't be doing it for free. Why wouldn't they be open and bold about their business if its all above board?

The fact that offo's close at 10 is a disgrace, but no fault of the head shop owners.

You obviously have never been to Nirvana.

TBH I would prefere to see some of the stuff sold in these shops regulated rather than be banned out right forcing the whole scene underground.

I doubt these drugs would survive in the underground market. The only reason people take them now is because their easy to get. If you've the choice between MDMA and a poor MDMA knock off which one will you go for.

They have become so widespread and have extended opening hours because of demand. If their days are numbered, I'm not sure why so many of them would be opening, presumably like most businesses, with financial confidence from the banks.

I think we are all missing the big thing here.............

Is the judge disclosing the rental income to the Revenue on top of his judges salary?

I believe a large proportion of MDMA and E pills that are sold are cut with crushed BZP tabs left over from the recent ban.

I have been to Nirvana before.

It is open late but it does not deliver.

If you know that it does, please supply a link. Otherwise stop sprouting tabloid rubbish.

This is true. The "quality" of E pills has plummeted over the last year or 2, before the head shops were widespread over here. Might be a symptom of BZP being banned elsewhere in Europe so we got the fobbed off with the dregs. Once it was banned here, I've been reliably informed that practically every yoke was cut to bits with BZP.

I have. Not a mention of delivery service, and i jokingly mentioned it to your man in the Happy Hippy when he told us he was open til 4am. His response: "We'd be shut down like a shot".
