Need Help. Really interested in applying for this course -Software Design & Development in NUI Galway (Higher Diploma) but have no IT experience nor a numerate background. Was thinking of studying online with FAS beforehand as it may help me gain a place on this course. They have the following online courses :

Java Programming S.E.6
Microsoft .NET Framework - Application Development Foundation
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0: Web-Based Client Development
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0: Windows-Based Client Development

Any idea which might be a good one to start with....the most relevant to what I might study in Software Design course. Many thanks.

My brother is in 4th year Software Development in the GMIT and he reckons that the Java course is the most useful one for you. They start with Java programming in GMIT first year.

The hdip in SD&D doesn't teach any java so it won't really help you there. The languages taught are c, c++ , vb.net, asp, html and vbscript. You can also go towards the masters if you obtain high enough grades in your hdip year. All three of the others seem relevant though....
