Any Felt owners out there? Thoughts please

    Hi All,

Getting my first road bike, for a 20K commute and some weekend rides. Was just about to get an Orbea Aqua (was tempted to stretch to the Onix but it was just too pricey) then I came across this in my LBS.....

    http://2009.feltracing.com/09-catalog/road/f-series/09-f75.aspx

Any thoughts out there on this as an entry bike? Any Felt owners out there care to comment in general?

Am very tempted to look at the Z4, a 2009 model if I can get the right price but it may be too much for a starter bike.

    Thanks guys.

How much are you looking to spend?:)

I am doing this on the CTW, so i was looking at spending approx 1000 euro on the bike. If there is some good value out there I'd be keen to stretch that a little. I loved the new Orbea Onix but it was just too pricey for me at 1700 euro.

I saw a Felt Z4 online in an Irish store, 2009 model coming in at just over 1300 euro which I thought was excellent. Somebody beat me to it though!

As said earlier, looking at the F75 also.

That's very cheap for a Z4. The 2010 ones are €2300 from Wiggle.

The F and Z series are a bit different geometry wise (F is racing, Z is sportive, as I recall). Have you decided which type you want?

If I were commuting on one I would definitely be going for the more relaxed Z series. Lovely bikes.

Yeah it was a great deal, was snapped up very fast.

Doubt I will find a comparable deal for the Z4 so it may be the F75 for me. Which is still a lovely bike with a decent spec for an entry bike. Disappointed about the Z4 and that I could not stretch for the Orbea Onix.

    Any thoughts on the F75?

I have a Z80 its compact frame made a big difference to me. I find it much more comfortable especially when descending.

I assume they don't take racks or full mudguards, which may be an issue for commuting, and the geometry is racy, which may or may not be a problem. I was considering them when I first re-started cycling, but in the end went for something more practical (before I joined the multiple-bike fraternity).

    Just my tuppence worth,
I bought the Z100 before Christmas and am very happy with it......granted its my first "road" bike so nothing to I've compare it with, but it seems really nice. I'd imagine the slightly higher end stuff is nicer again.

    Just my tuppence worth too!!

We all chipped in and bought my Dad a Z35..Second hand and better than new from an absolute gent in Stillorgan..

It is a beaut of a bike..very well made and is a very comfortable ride..Fab frame and great components at the price

(Put on the best Scooby Doo villain's voice...) And if it wasn't for this meddling Recession, I'd have a lovely second bike for training!!

    My loss, Dad's gain!!

I have an F4, absolutely love it. Mind you, the only comparison I have is my previous Trek 1000. The Felt blows it out of the water in every respect, and I can even go around claiming to be Bradley Wiggins' replacement, seeing as it's in the Garmin team colours!

Thank you kindly for all of your comments. I opted for the Felt F75 in the end and am delighted with it. Cant wait to take it out over the weekend !

I have to burn my credit card or try to stay away from wiggle, chainreactionscycles etc....

    Thank you again.

Bit late here, but I've the 09 F75 just over a year now. It was my first racer so I'm probably not in the best position to compare, but I love it. V good entry level spec, well put together. Enjoy!

A word of note for you-

I have the Felt AR4 and after using Specialized for a while and the stiffness took a bit of getting used to. Now that I am used to it it is a lovely ride though. So if it feels different at first bear with it:)

Genuinely........ thanks again for all of your guidance guy (and not just in this thread). Out early today for my first spin, did 90 mins. Few laps of the Phoenix Park with some very minor hills ( I know I Know, I'll be more adventurous next time). Absolutely thrilled to be back exercising after a very long lay off due to serious illness. Long way back to where I was though, really need to improve weight / fitness.

Loved my new bike and new clothing kept me reasonably warm. May need a pair of overshoes as feet started to feel a little numb. Need a second base layer also as was fairly chilly early this morning.

Thanks for eveything guys - some great guidance / advice on this forum.
