You could get the bus to Cork city centre and another down to Bantry from there

Train from Dublin to Cork would be more expensive but more comfortable and faster. Train station is about a 10 min walk away from the bus station in Cork. You could then get a bus to Bantry from Cork like scubakid suggested.

If you went to Killarney or Tralee you would then have to get a bus or train back to Cork first as theres no direct bus service from Kerry to bantry except for about 3mths in summer.

Not since the very early 60s, if not before!

Train to Cork, and bus thereafter, but direct to Killarney and bus from there would give you more time in the choo-choo, if that's what you'd prefer.
