A different approach to experimental music?

    Greetings everyone!

I'm doing a project that might be a slightly different take on electronic/experimental music. (I'm hardly the guru of this scene, and I would be pleased to know I wasn't an exception.)

I work with MIDI and Soundfonts, and am emulating a genre of music which is otherwise considered abrasive - black metal.

The music is instrumental. I've been signed since August, and have a debut CD/digital release.

I guess the reason I'm posting is to fish for questions, comments and/or snide remarks! Links to the music are below!

    Thank you for your attention!

ah man, now this is a subject I've been wrestling with for years.
How to resolve my love of spacey experimental Ambient (think Biosphere, again) with my love of Metal (think loads of bands from Deep Purple right up to Children Of Bodom, In Flames, Lamb Of God).

So far, I've not been able to work it out so write/record/perform ambient and listen to metal. Funny thing is, I was talking to one of the guys from Abgott last week in London and just stopped short of asking him how'd they feel about a collaboration ... mostly cos I was nearly old enough to be his dad (even though Iwas wearing a Children Of Bodom t shirt at the time :p)

Anyway, I reckon you are approaching it from the opposite end so will arrive at an interesting place no doubt. Mayhap, something like the stuff done by Burzum or other ambient metal, I dunno.

I like the instrumental emphasis. There's only so much cookie monster singing an old bastard like me can take :p

Hard to comment on the music itself, I've never been comfortable commenting on myspace stuff purely cos of the drastic quality loss that goes with myspace. Metal on myspace always sounds muddy to my ears, too much frequency loss (hell, even Joey's kicks sound weak on myspace :D) so perhaps your music suffers here. Then again, it's hard to avoid th eobligitory myspace page. I resisted for years and finally caved and paid my son to set one up for my music. I guess soundcloud may offer a better quality way to give folks a chance to hear your music in advance of making a purchase.

best of luck with the music man and hope it all progressess in interesting directions for you. Keep us posted for sure.

    Thanks for the post!

It's been a mixed bag for me so far. Some people love the different approach because its something new. Some people hate the different approach because it breaks tradition, and the "electronic/synthetic" approach does effect the sound.

...that's ok though. There are quite a few bands in the "black metal" genre that are in a love/hate relationship between fans/labels/other bands.

I'm glad I found a label to support me at least!

I know what you mean about the myspace sound quality limitations. I've got an external player on my .com (the animated gif in my first post) that provides a clearer listen.
