Can anyone recommend a cheap/free application to capture an on screen video. I need to send an item on RTE player to a friend.

That only records the video on screen and not the sound AFAIK

Screenflow looks good but an expensive option for a few videos. Jing is claimed to be good but the demo version that I tried made a mess of the audio.

Thats true of course, but that can be easily overcome with the help of a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack lead (audio out to audio in)
I just tried recording a clip from the RTE player and it works, but the frame rate only seems about 5 or 6 fps, which basically means it'll be errr.... crap!

I'd say only the pay versions would let you record a section of the screen which is what one would really need.

Yes RTE player is geo linked. I am trying ishowu which seems promising but I have having problems with the video & audio being out of sync. I have found the same thing regarding frame rate.

If anyone is thinking of trying ishowu I would recommend a visit to youtube !

There is an app you can get for mac, called soundflower iirc, where basically in system preferences, you can select soundflower as your audio out. Then open the app, hit record, and any sound your computer should be making, be it warning beeps, iTunes songs, w/e, it will record it.

It was nearly two years ago since i used it though, so the app might be out of production. It was free from what i remember. There are surely other alternatives though.

Yep downloading soundflower is part of the process for using ishowu.
