Vodafone iPhone

Got a call from Vodafone yesterday offering me an iPhone (not sure if its the 3GS version) through a 3rd party company. This is due to the fact that Vodafone are not yet sure when they will be selling them from their stores.

Anyway due to the fact that it is through a 3rd party company, Vodafone cannot offer insurance (usually approx €5.99 per month). My home insurance will cover me for theft and damage (i.e. phone is stood on etc) but not for internal electrical / mechanical failure.

Am i better off waiting until Vodafone have them in store to get fully covered? Are iPhones prone to internal electrical / mechanical failure? Is it overkill and a waste of money taking out Vodafone's insurance?

Furthermore has anyone got a Vodafone iPhone through this 3rd party company? Any bad experiences? What version (3G or 3GS) do they offer?

    cheers

Got mine yesterday - it's the 3gs version, 16 gb. No problems at all so far - lovely piece of kit :D

I got one last July in Rome. Haven't bothered with insurance. Just keep it in the same pocket with no coins and keys and it will be sound.

Is it black or White? Got the call today and forgot to ask what version they are sending. Doh

16Gb black 3gs is the only one IOS supply afaik.

Mine didn't last 2 weeks until it completely froze. They just sent out another brand new one to replace it.

Those of you who got a call from Vodafone yest about the iphone, when did you register your interest. And how much are they charging you for the phone? Just want to see how far up/down the list I am!

I registered my interest last week and then got the call on Monday last. If you opt for the Perfect Choice Access Plus 300 price plan or higher you get the iPhone for free. If you go for a cheaper montly charge then I think it might cost you in the region of €200 for the phone

So I take it from your replies that only the 16GB version is on offer? Anyone get the 32GB version? - is it possible to increase the memory capacity with SD cards?

    cheers

Nope. There are no memory card slots on the iPhone to expand the main memory. In fact, the only slot in the phone is for the SIM card and nothing else...

If all you did was register on the website, you should call customer care to push it along a bit.
I registerd back in september when they first announced it but only found out about IOS here on Boards. I then rang customer care three days in a row and got the IOS call on the third day!

If you sign up to the two lowest tarriffs the phone is €200. Anything from perfect access plus 300 (€65 a month) upwards and the phone is free. It's subject to an 18mth contract though. If you sign up for the access plus 300 tarriff you can change down after six months if you want.

16gb 3gs black is perfect for me, as you can move your stuff on and off with itunes as required. IOS just told me that once you use it you move on to the perfect choice access plus tariff of 300 texts 300 mins and 2gb internet access automatically after I raised it. He didn't really tell me anything and just presumed I knew what I was talking about (thanks to boards.ie) so make sure you know what you want in advance. I am happy with the tariff proposed as it fits my usage but check yours in advance.

The phones are unlocked through IOS. I would be getting one before Vodafone launch and only sell locked ones.

Sorry to go slightly OT, but is this true? If so, does this mean that an iPhone bought from Ios could be used on any network? Obviously, you are committing to an 18 month contract with Vodafone, but I had been thinking of buying an iPhone for someone as a present and as I'm currently with Vodafone and dont intend leaving, it might be a cheaper solution. The plans they are offering with the iPhone suit my usage also (I have a diff smartphone at present).

I got my phone from IOS/Vodafone in December and put an O2 sim in it this morning. It worked fine.

Phoned Vodafone them this afternoon and they say they are out of stock and she wasn't sure when they'd be back in, but it could be March when they bring them out themselves (i.e. not through IOS). I just registered my interest online, so I suppose Ill just have to wait and see . . .
