    Not to sound insulting.. but are you sure its not some power saving feature kicking in to set it to sleep or something?
    The fact it works normally plugged in might mean that its just changed power profiles...

    It's hard to diagnose without seeing the netbook. It could be the battery, it could also be the motherboard.
    Did it come with an international warranty?

    I've never dealt with Sony for warranty stuff, so i'm not too sure. Some manufacturers will send out a courier and send it off to get repaired. At least this was the case with an Asus netbook i had...
