Hello, I've been riding bikes for a few years and built up a few years of no claims and I was wondering if there are any insurance companies in Ireland who recognise no claims accrued on motorcycles when you're insuring a car.
I know direct line in the UK allow you to use no claims earned on bikes for car insurance. Anyone looked into this? Would appreciate help as I'm a new car driver and getting stupid quotes.

    Thanks

    Not in Ireland.

Yep, it doesn't happen in this country. The fact that you could have been driving a bike for the last decade, on a full motorbike licence, doesn't mean a thing to an insurance company. I was told by the company that I had my bike with for years that I had never driven before. I wonder what they thought I was insuring the bike for.

It's the same in reverse - being an insured car driver for years doesn't get you any brownie points when you start looking for bike insurance!

What a total joke, so you don't get to transfer a bike NCB to a car but if you have both a car and bike & have a tip you lose credit on both?

...try AXA - they cover cars and bikes, and when I insured my bike before, I got a discount for having the car with them already.

...even if you insure via AON, you'll get the AXA discount.......

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I thought as much. Thanks for your help :)
Who'd have thought insurance companies were only out to exploit you?
Guess I'll have to start saving...
