Ok so im new to all this 3v stuff but it seems like a really good idea. Im not the most web savy so i thought i would ask the good people of boards for their opinion :D Has anybody used them and are they safe? I mainly want to buy from asos and online clothes shops but can they be used on any site that would accept your standard visa or laser card?

    All help much appreciated :D

I always use them for buying online and have never had a problem with them. They re very safe and easy to use. I have not come across a site that doesn't take visa and 3v are a visa card.

you can apply for one online at 3v.ie,and yes they are safe, since they are a pay as you go card, they would be no use to anyone hacking since you would had the card top up used up anyway...

You have to register online for a 3v customer number and then go to a shop to buy the credit. They are not necessarily the cheapest prepaid card! They charge a fixed fee where the likes of Entropay charge a % which can work out cheaper depending on the amount of credit being purchased

Well my experience with 3v is that you really end up paying hidden fees. These are generated by the 'clever' way it is configured. Ok, lets say you want to buy something for 68.00 euros. You would have to buy a 70 euro voucher. So at the 3v outlet you pay cashier 70 + 2.50 charge 72.50 in all.

You buy your item online for 68 euros and this leaves a 2 euro balance
in your account. Now in theory you can transfer any remaing balance to a new 3v voucher but they charge 2.50 tho transfer so it cant happen, can it. Its dead money for you. Also be careful about expirey dates on your 3v, they are very very short. If your 3v card expires you can't transfer and you guessed it, you loose money. I have 13 euro dead money I cant use in my account. Now it's theirs. I would say thats hidden charges.

Yes, you can transfer after the voucher has expired. Email the customer service section about the €13.

To use up any remaining small balance on a 3V voucher, set up another Paypal account and send the balance to it (assuming you're using PP to begin with). After a few vouchers you can transfer the accumulated balance to the main account.

Be aware that you can only use a limited number of 3V vouchers on a Paypal account. They suspended mine after 12 I think, and I had to create a new one.
