Embarrasing - rotten egg farts

    Going unreg'd for this.

NOT looking for medical advice. Just want to see if anyone else has this problem & if they've any nutritional type advice that helped them or anything else like that. I'm really far too embarrased to talk to anyone about it - coward!

For about 1 1/2yrs I've been having really god-awful stinking eggy farts, mainly at night. I can hold them in when social circumstances requires it but it's uncomfortable.

I know the whole thing about the smell being caused by hydrogen suplhide or sulphur or something like that, but I get them pretty much every evening no matter what I eat & my diet is quite varied.

Tummy starts gurgling after lunch & then by late evening, the farts start rumbling down & then come about every 20 minutes - it's terrible! Even my pets stay away from me at night now.

Near the time I first started getting them I went to my chiro & I didn't get them for a month after that adjustment but then they came back & they don't go away after adjustments anymore.

I read somewhere that dairy can be a cause. Has anyone any success in giving up dairy to get rid of this annoying situation?

Also any tips on controlling them when I do get them to avoid really bad social faux pas!?

This could be anything from diet to an allergy. You should go for an allergy test. Foods like dairy, cheese, curry, eggs, garlic etc can be culprits for this. Do you eat a lot of any one food?

I had a similar problem to this and it is embarrassing but I found most of the time people never suspect the female in the room could fart that smelly! I think it has to be your diet, I didn't believe it was for awhile, even had to ask my doctor for any ideas he had and he said it is linked to your diet but even he was embarrassed to talk about it which I didn't think was possible for a doctor. He said it wouldnt be milk, possibly meat. I went through the process of removing foods from my diet and discovered it was onions! Sadly I love onions but have to avoid them where possible and it works.

In the meantime Id definitely suggest you read "Improve your digestion" by Patrick Holford. Follow his advice and I guarantee you'll have no more problems in that department

Was looking at embarrassing bodies on channel 4 today and they dealt with just this. Apparenttly can be to do with a lactose intolerance. Maybe google their website for more info on what to do. Also it can be to do with how you eat your food. Eating on the go not good,as is not taking your time or gulping lots of air with your drinks etc etc.

    Thanks everyone.

Good to know others suffer from this sometimes.
Well I had a chiropractic adjustment day before yesterday & no eggy farts yesterday at all. However, I also cut out any dairy stuff after lunchtime so maybe that was it as well. Having said that I succumbed to a small ice cream late last night and within 10 minutes my tummy was gurgling like crazy.

Going to try cutting out the dairy for at least a week, bought lactose free milk the other day & some proper natural live yogurt (very low in lactose) rather than the cheap stuff they sell in Lidl and the like. Steering away from cheese & milk chocolate etc.

I think it might be the thing as when I looked at my diet, I actually do eat/drink a huge amount of dairy & I think it's just overload.

Will have a look at those other sites mentioned above as well.

Go to a doctor and get tested. It's pretty simple. A friend had it and now feels great since being diagnosed. Lost a lot of weight, too.

Thanks. Do you mean they got tested, found it was dairy, cut that out & now feels great? Or did they have some other thing they had to cut out?

Got tested, then had to cut out all dairy. A few weeks were spent carefully monitoring his food (it's surprising how many products have milk), until he got used to it.

you need to go to a doctor and have yourself checked for intollerance/allergy to some food. you just need to have a small sample of your blood analyzed and after 1 week you will know which kind of food you must avoid.
And you will loose also weight! ;-)

Ok, I'll try dairy free for a week & if no joy will get tested.

    Thanks again

Please check with your dr before restricting your diet, you could have several conditions which may need medical care asap.
