    I think the 3G is still free on bill pay. 3GS isn't.

    Sure it's worth about €600+. €79 is the cheapest you can get it at the moment with contract.

    does it make more sense to buy the handset and just stay with the exisitng network.... who sells legit iphones sim free?

    Apple Store Italy and Apple Store Australia is all that i know of.
    Also authorised retailers in the above countries.
